The driver of a Toyota Avanza miraculously walked away with relatively minor injuries from an accident in Bali this weekend—considering that a giant tourist bus bulldozed into him and leveled his car.
The head-on collision happened on the route from Denpasar to Gilimanuk in Pekutatan, Jembrana on Saturday.
The bus, driven by Denpasar man, Reno Dody Ernanto, 39, was on its way from Gilimanuk to Denpasar, moving at a high speed.
Ernanto moved to overtake another vehicle, but right as he did, the Avanza, driven by Tabanan resident I Putu Rudi Irawan, 25, was in his path.
The bus slammed right into the car, totally crushing it on the spot, while the bus only suffered minor damage to its front.
Because of the intensity of the accident, witnesses suspected the Avanza’s driver didn’t make it, but were shocked when he turned out to be alive and only suffered lacerations on his leg and neck, according to Merdeka.
One of the passengers on the bus, however, incurred a lump on the head, but the driver was okay, reports said.
Jembrana Police Chief Nyoman Sukadana confirmed the accident and said police are handling the case.
“The accident occurred because the bus driver was negligent and reckless when driving the vehicle,” Sukadana said on Saturday.
The accident also caused major congestion, until the vehicles were able to be cleared.
