An Indian national was detained in Denpasar yesterday, following reports from residents that the foreigner had been extorting customers at a local food stall.
“According to information from the food stall owner and the public, [the foreigner] often extorted customers at the stall and even the stall itself, including eating without paying,” Dewa Sayoga, head of the public order agency (Satpol PP) in Denpasar, said.
Satpol PP apprehended the foreigner yesterday after they were alerted to his presence at the food stall by the owner.
Authorities, who first received reports about the foreigner about a week ago, are now coordinating with the Denpasar Police, Immigration, and the Indian Consulate to determine whether or not his deeds constitute a crime. They are reportedly still waiting for language assistance from the consulate.
