An Australian woman was found dead after allegedly falling from a scooter into a drainage gutter on the side of the road in Canggu, Bali on Thursday.
A passer-by found the 26-year-old facedown around 3 am, with a Honda scooter not far from her body, still running, police told reporters.
“The distance between the bike and the woman was around two meters,” Badung Precinct Traffic Police Chief Raka Wiratma said, as quoted by AAP.
“We suspect the victim was out of control,” he added.
The woman was first taken to Canggu Medical Clinic, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival, reports said. From there, her body was evacuated to the morgue at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar.
There seems to be some confusion as to whether or not she was wearing a helmet, or whether she did have one on when she was driving, but it was just not secured properly.
“According to several witnesses (she) was riding the bike alone and not wearing (a) helmet,” AAP quoted Wiratma as saying.
However, another Australian outlet reported that Wiratama told reporters that a helmet was found some distance from the young woman’s body.
No other vehicles were reportedly involved in the fatal accident.
