The elderly Aussie man that was struggling to survive in the hospital after getting brutally bashed in the head has passed away.
John Neil Bourke died at 63 years old in the hospital at 11 pm on Thursday night, just a week after his emergency surgery following a violent home invasion during the early hours of May 12.
An update was posted this morning to the retired engineer’s GoFundMe page that had been used for raising cash to cover his medical expenses:

As much as 30 percent of Bourke’s brain cavity had reportedly been filled with blood because of the repeated bashing the man suffered to the head. Though an emergency surgery was performed on him to relieve pressure on his brain, an update on May 12 had said his condition was stable, BUT still at high risk.
“His body will be released and cremated most likely tomorrow. As per his wishes his ashes will be spread at sea at his favorite beach where we intent (sic) to have a private ceremony for his family and friends,” a neighbor said, as quoted by Yahoo7 News.
“It will just be a small ceremony, John was not the type of bloke who wanted a lot of attention.”
