A 54-year-old Melbourne woman was found dead in her Legian, Bali hotel on the morning of Friday the 13th.
Michelle Smith, was reportedly on vacation and staying in Akmani Hotel with her two sisters when her body was found dead Friday morning around 8 am.
According to the International Business Times, Smith had a history of illness and her friend said the woman had been to a nearby clinic for a check up after complaining of difficulty breathing on Thursday and local authorities confirm that there was no sign of foul play or criminal activity.
The head of forensics at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar, Ida Bagus Putu Alit, reportedly said there did not appear to be any trauma. “We only find signs of asphyxiation, like blue on the lips and under the nails. We allege that she was sick,” he said, as quoted by the International Business Times.
Additionally, chief of Kuta police’s criminal investigative unit Dewa Tagel Wijasa said police found nothing suspicious surrounding Smith’s death. “She died of an illness, a lung infection,” he said, as quoted by the International Business Times.
Australia’s 9 News reports that investigations are ongoing and Smith had been prescribed medication by a local doctor before she died.
“It was Bev, Cyndi and Michelle’s first and only holiday as sisters. It’s so unfortunate this has happened,” a statement released by Smith’s family read, as quoted by 9 News.
“We will miss her. Everyone is devastated.”
