A 33-year-old Australian tourist, identified by his initials SBW, perished tragically on Tuesday afternoon in a hit-and-run incident on the Persinggahan Highway, near Klungkung’s border with Karangasem.

SBW was riding his Honda Scoopy motorcycle westbound when a speeding motorbike approaching from the opposite lane collided with him, according to Klungkung Police spokesman Agus Widiono.

The perpetrator fled the scene immediately after the impact.

“The identity of the perpetrator remains unknown […]  the victim suffered injuries with a severe head injury,” Widiono stated, confirming the incident as a hit-and-run.

Wayan Toya Arnawa, a witness at the scene, told police that he was standing on the side of the road when the incident occurred. At that time, around 3:30pm, the road was relatively quiet.

Local residents rushed to the victim’s aid, but the perpetrator had already vanished eastward, leaving SBW critically wounded.

“Because they were busy helping the injured person, the perpetrator was not identified and had already fled to the east,” Widiono explained, citing the witness’s account.

Responding swiftly, the Klungkung Police Traffic Unit and Kring Sehat ambulance arrived on the scene, and SBW was transported to the Klungkung General Hospital for identification.

“SBW’s body remains in the RSUD morgue, awaiting official embassy procedures,” Widiono concluded.
