Australian stepmom ditches kids for Bali trip, blames postal error

Reinforcing age-old ‘wicked’ stepmother stereotypes, a 28-year-old woman got arrested in Perth last week after allegedly abandoning her two young stepchildren for two days while she went to Bali.

The kids, just ages four and six, were discovered on Wednesday evening by police and came out of the unlocked house “crying and screaming,” according to neighbors.

The unidentified stepmother is understood to have gone to Bali to have her visa renewed, while the children’s father was out of the country at the time of her trip.

The woman did not take responsibility for her actions and instead blamed the Australian post for the incident.

“The post office lost my children’s passports … that’s what has caused all this hassle,” she said through an interpreter, as quoted by Seven News

“If you want to leave the country to go overseas you have to have your passport, that’s common sense.”

When asked by a reporter if the children were able to take care of themselves, she apparently responded that it was a matter between her and them. *Cringe*

The woman is reportedly due to appear in the Perth’s Magistrate Court on June 22 to answer for her actions.
