Australian sex offender found teaching English courses in Bali during visa raid

During an immigration raid of course provider English Now in Kuta, a former sex offender was caught teaching children with an improper visa.

Australian John Peter Domenic Rigano, 65, served nine months in Australian jail back in 2009 for indecently touching a teenage boy. A psychiatrist at the time, Rigano had been helping treat the boy for anxiety, according to news.com.AU. Rigano reportedly revealed this during questioning, says Mohamad Soleh, head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office.

Rigano, who was allegedly misusing a multiple entry visa will be deported to Brisbane on Friday.

Apparently the English institute had said it didn’t employ any foreigners, but immigration didn’t buy it. “We were suspicious when we looked at the schedule on the wall of the office that said there were native speaker teachers there,” Soleh said, as quoted by news.com.AU.

But Rigano wasn’t the only foreigner caught working on an inappropriate visa from the sweep at English Now. Two other Australians, both of which are women were also caught teaching, while a fourth Australian visa violator, a 24-year-old woman was reportedly found working as the operational manager at a Kuta hotel before her work permit was approved. Immigration has not said if it will deport them yet.

Another two Americans, one UK citizen, one Japanese citizen and four Norwegians were also reportedly caught in the same operation, but their fates also have yet to be reported.
