An Australian man says he went home with an unexpected souvenir from a holiday in Bali: a balloon stuffed with white powder.
The man from Perth identified as Rob (he apparently didn’t want his last name mentioned), reportedly called into a Radio 6PR morning show on Thursday to chronicle how he came to find drugs in his baggage, reports WA Today.
“We flew back from Bali two weeks ago and after we got through all the check points and got home we actually found a balloon filled with a white powder that was in our hand luggage,” Rob told Radio 6PR.
“We found it in a bag that was last to be packed with all the toiletries and everything else and my wife took it as hand luggage with her, so we pretty much had it with us at the airport.
“By some miracle we got through all the check points.”
Rob claims he called the police who took a look at the white powder and confirmed it was narcotics but did not identify what type of drug it was.
“We rang the police and gave an evidence thing to say we have surrendered it to them and that was it,” he said.
“The only thing I could get confirmation from the police was that it was drugs, but what exactly it was they said they would be passing onto the federal police. We haven’t heard anything. I don’t know if we will.”
Rob says his experience should serve as a lesson for travelers to check everything and double check again.
Rob’s story has apparently not yet been confirmed by the Australian Federal Police.
