Australian jailed in Bali over joint has been released

Remember the Aussie who got caught on a Canggu beach smoking a joint?

The Australian man jailed one year in Bali after he was caught with marijuana has now been discharged, reports News Corp Australia

Nicholas Langan and a driver for the Green Room Villas, Hanung Hermantoro, 25, were arrested last January when a security guard spotted them smoking and tipped off police.

A little bag of marijuana weighing 0.86 grams was also seized in addition to the half-smoked joint at the time of their arrest.

The two could have faced drug possession charges which carries a maximum 12 years time behind bars, but the prosecutors ended up recommending they be sentenced for drug use, with a max four years.

After Langan demonstrated notable remorse in court and apologized for his actions, the court turned out a surprisingly lenient one-year sentence for both men.
