Australian FM comes to Indonesia for first time since Bali 9 executions

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is in Indonesia for the first time since April, when Bali Nine Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were executed.

Things got pretty tense for awhile there after Indonesia executed two Australians in April, as Bishop was one of the key people working towards stopping their executions.

Australia even withdrew its ambassador to Indonesia, Paul Grigson, for some time in response to the Bali Nine executions.

But now, the two countries seem to be trying to patch things up, as Bishop is reportedly the fourth Australian minister to come to the archipelago in the past couple months.

She’s spending the day in hazy Padang, west Sumatra for the Indian Ocean Rim Association Ministerial meeting and will also meet with her Indonesian counterpart, foreign minister Retno Masudi, ABC Australia reports.
