A seven-month-old baby is fighting for her life at a hospital in Bali after contracting pneumonia.

The parents of the baby, Almeera, have turned to crowdfunding in the hopes of raising enough money to medevac her to Australia’s Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in Perth.

Almeera’s father, Daniel, is Australian and her mother, Sonia, is Indonesian.

The couple thought Almeera would be covered under Daniel’s insurance, but it turns out that this “is not that case,” her family wrote on a GoFundMe page, launched on August 14 to raise $22k for the medevac and quickly growing hospital bills.

Almeera was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday night in Bali with a very high fever and respiratory distress.

“Tests later confirmed that she has severe pneumonia with sepsis. The pneumonia has caused inflammation around her heart. She is unable to breath without oxygen and she stopped breathing 3 times in one night,” says the GoFundMe page.

“She has under gone a blood transfusion and they are doing further tests to investigate if she has a genetic blood disorder called Beta Thalassemia, which requires a specialist consultant.

“It may mean that Almeera will require ongoing monitoring and potential blood transfusions for the rest of her life.”

Over $15k has been raised for Almeera, as of writing time.

“As you could imagine, all of this is coming at quite the cost and has put a financial strain on her family. Please help us ease the stress on Daniel and Sonia and support baby Almeera on her long road to recovery by donating,” pleads the crowdfunding page.
