An Australian man died after falling from the upper floor of a Seminyak hotel in Kuta last night. Police in Bali are investigating the incident.

Police identified the victim as 46-year-old DSJ. Denpasar Police spokesman Ketut Sukadi said today that the body of DSJ, who was wearing only a pair of black camo shorts at the time of the incident, was found by the hotel’s swimming pool at around 8pm last night.

“[We’re still] investigating the incident,” he said

According to reports, DSJ checked himself into the hotel, which is located on Seminyak Road, at around 3pm yesterday and planned to stay until Monday next week. The hotel’s CCTV cameras caught him walking wobbly into his room, which is located on the fourth floor, alone.

However, a hotel guest, SW, who was hanging out by the pool around the time of the incident, told the authorities that she heard screams and curses from DSJ’s room before the fall. She added that she heard the victim banging on the room’s windows as well.

The hotel’s security guards and staff were alerted about the situation and they rushed to DSJ’s room to check on the guest, but he didn’t let them in. The staff said they continued to hear commotion inside the room, but soon after, DSJ plunged to his death.

The guards and staff said they heard a thud and found DSJ’s body by the pool on the ground floor. They did not see anybody inside DSJ’s room after the victim fell.

Police have yet to rule DSJ’s death a suicide or a murder.
