Attorney general spokesman denies Australian Bali 9 are in next group to be executed

While some media reports earlier quoted Indonesia’s attorney general as basically saying the Bali Nine Australian pair would be among the next group of death row prisoners to be executed, a spokesman for his office is reportedly denying such statements.

Earlier today, news broke that Indonesian attorney general HM Prasetyo before a parliamentary committee listed Australia as a nationality of prisoners to be killed in the next round.

However, ABC is reporting that Prasetyo’s spokesman, Tony Spontana says his boss did not make these comments.

Additionally, the head of the parliamentary committee, Azis Syamsuddin, also said Prasetyo did not list any nationalities of the people to be executed next, ABC reports.

Whether or not the convicted drug smugglers Bali Nine Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran are actually listed in Indonesia’s next wave of executions, we are still eager to see if Indonesian President Joko Widodo will give into diplomatic pressures or will instead stick with his hardliner zero tolerance for drug trafficking position.
