If you are in Bali and in need of cash, you better rush to your nearest ATM as cash withdrawal machines on the island will be offline during Nyepi or Day of Silence, which falls on Thursday.
According to reports, ATMs in Bali will be switched off starting noon today, and will be back online on Friday at 6am.
“ATMs will be gradually closed starting noon [today],” said Bank Indonesia’s Bali Chief Trisno Nugroho in a statement.
There will be, however, some ATMs that remain online until the evening today. BCA, one of the country’s largest banks, announced that their main machines on Jalan Hasanudin in Denpasar, Jalan Sunset Road in Denpasar, and Jalan DR. Sutomo in Singaraja will be online until 10PM. Other BCA ATMs will be closed gradually until 2pm.
Despite the rise in digital payments, Bali residents still depend on cash. Trisno noted that the central bank recorded IDR692 billion (US$48 million) in cash withdrawals on the island in February 2022, up 149 percent from January’s IDR278 billion (US$19.3 million)
Mobile banking services will remain open for Nyepi this year, although people need to rely on fiber optic-based internet services as mobile data services will be switched off during the holy day.
