Anticipating ISIS, Bali airport becomes more vigilant in monitoring foreigners

Immigration says it’s tightening security at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport in anticipation of ISIS infiltration.

“Monitoring will continue to be improved. We are cooperating with BNPT (National Agency for Combating Terrorism), because of existing ISIS issues,” said Frience Simolang, Head of Data Collection and Immigration Entry at Ngurah Rai on Thursday, as quoted by Tribun Bali

According to Simolang, there has not yet been any suggestion of ISIS entry through Bali, but authorities are responding to a larger trend in ISIS sympathizing in the region.

Frience also told Tribun that foreign visitors in Indonesia through Bali are predominantly from Australia, Asia, and Europe, while visits from people of Middle Eastern origin are actually relatively low.
