Another woman violently slashed in Bali, this time near Bali Toll Road

Yet another case of a local woman getting attacked and slashed in Bali has emerged.

While news broke earlier this month of a Denpasar assault when pictures of a woman’s long bloody gash went viral, now reports are focused on a woman who was allegedly slashed at the intersection for the toll road in Nusa Dua on early Monday morning.

The woman earlier this month was said to have been wearing shorts during her attack, and now the woman assaulted this time had a tattoo on her shoulder, local media has been quick to point out—though we can’t know the motive of the assailant for sure at this time. We hope these kinds of violent attacks in Bali against women aren’t becoming the new normal, because they’re clearly physically threatening, but they also seem to be promoting an attitude of victim blaming.

The woman on Monday was injured in more than one place on her body, on the shoulder and her arm. She was reportedly rushed to Sanglah Hospital but was reluctant to report the details of what happened.

Hospital officers said she only mentioned that she was assaulted by a man and then fled.

Sanglah spokesman Dr. Kadek Naryantha confirmed the patient’s case in the hospital and said she had been referred form Siloam Hospital in Kuta for emergency treatment.

However, Naryantha said the victim refused to enter the operating room for surgery.

“We suggested surgery because of injuries suffered by the victim, we fear there could be complications. However, the patient still refuses and we cannot force her,” Naryantha told Merdeka

Meanwhile, police separately confirmed the case to local media and also noted the difficulty of gathering information from her—she apparently told police she could not remember the exact location of where she was attacked by an unidentified man.

“The victim recalls it was at the time she was going to enter the Nusa Dua toll road. She was hit from behind and attacked by a machete. While the exact location has not been clear and the victim has not reported officially whether it was in South Kuta or Benoa,” Merdeka quoted an unidentified officer as saying.
