Just less than a week after a young Australian tourist tragically died in Bali after crashing through a glass panel, another Australian man has been reported dead in Kuta—though their deaths are apparently not related.
Police say Maurice Garnet Berry, 69, was found dead in his hotel room on Saturday afternoon and forensics says there were no obvious signs of injury, reports News Corp Australia.
Hotel staff of Surya Dewata Cottages, Legian checked on Berry on Saturday after finding it strange that he had not been seen all day.
Berry was a retiree from Sydney who stayed at the hotel over the past two years and would only leave to extend his visa, hotel staff member Ida Bagus Komang Putra told News Corp.
Putra also said Berry had been afflicted with an illness for the past couple months and had been an inpatient at Siloam Hospital.
Head of Sanglah Hospital forensics, Dr. Ida Bagus Putu Alit says there was no indication of violence on Berry’s body, based on an external examination, but an autopsy would be needed to determine his exact cause of death.
Berry’s family, however, has not requested an autopsy to date and his body is reportedly expected to be sent home on Tuesday.
