A pilot whale stranded on Biaung Beach in eastern Denpasar has been returned to the sea yesterday, after animal activists from the Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) and local residents teamed up to help the sea mammal.
“The whale appeared to be pretty weak from his breathing. It’s possibly because he was trying to return to the ocean but the waves were too big and kept pushing him to the shore,” JAAN Marine Mammal Coordinator, Amang Raga, told Kumparan.
The whale also appeared to have injured his fin, according to the head of conservation at the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) in Bali, as reported by Sindo News.
Amang, along with local residents and officers from BKSDA reportedly teamed up to escort the whale further out into the sea so it could swim away. which he appeared to do so successfully.
However, JAAN said in an Instagram post that a team is on stand-by in case the pilot whale gets stranded again.
