An American woman reportedly died following an asthma attack while hiking with her family in Bresela Village in Payangan, Gianyar yesterday.
Reports say that Jamie Lou Whalley, 44, embarked on a group hike with a guide yesterday at around 3pm.
The guide, I Made Wardana, told the authorities that Whally was among three travelers that went on the hike.
The journey involved walking through rice terraces and passing a river, according to Payangan Police Chief I Nengah Sona, as quoted by Tribun today.
While walking through the rice terrace at the village at around 4:30pm, a group member screamed to Wardana for help. The guide turned around and saw Whalley on the ground.
Whalley’s husband reportedly attempted to perform CPR on the victim. Sadly, she did not make it.
“According to the victim’s husband, the victim had a long history of asthma and weighed 198 kilograms,” Nengah said.
Whalley’s family members said that she was seen appreciating the idyllic scenery of the rice terrace fields before collapsing to the ground.
Whalley’s body was brought to the Payangan Hospital. Police said they have notified the US Consulate in Bali about the victim’s tragic demise.
