An American expatriate living in Bali allegedly tried to pick up a package containing 33.6 grams of cannabis in liquid form, before getting arrested by customs.
The package with the liquid THC, disguised as vaping, or e-cigarette liquid, was intercepted by Bali Customs in November this year.
The package was confiscated at a post office in Renon, Denpasar by Bali Ngurah Rai Customs and a K-9 team on Nov. 30, 2017.
But news of the American’s arrest, identified by initials KSL, was not made public until a press conference earlier today. The press conference including briefings for two other drugs suspects involved in separate cases, including an Australian who was arrested in Bali upon landing, allegedly with 19.97 grams of meth and 14 ecstasy pills.
Customs alleges that 333.6 grams of liquid cannabis was found in 20 containers of e-cigarette liquid in a package that KSL was picking up from the post office in Renon.
As the volume of drugs, classified as a type I narcotic in Indonesia is less than 500 grams, KSL should not be eligible for the death penalty, unlike the Australian suspect.
“This is the first time narcotics in liquid form has been caught at the Post Office,” Bali and West Nusa Tenggara Customs Investigation Unit head, Husni Syaiful said in Kuta on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara Bali.
According to Syaiful, the package originated from the US and was received to KSL, who is known to live in Bali, working as a fashion designer.
