Authorities are investigating a shocking incident that unfolded at a fast-food restaurant in Jimbaran on Monday, when a Russian national reportedly got into a physical altercation with an Indonesian family.

The victims from the Indonesian family in this disturbing encounter are HY (38), EN (38), and L (78), while the Russian man was identified as AI (21).

The two parties involved have each filed an official police complaint regarding the incident.

“The case is currently under investigation,” South Kuta Police Chief I Nyoman Karang Adi Putra told reporters today.

Local news outlets reported that the altercation erupted when AI, who was with a woman named PV (29), took offense to an Indonesian patron’s request for the restaurant management to remind him not to smoke in the air-conditioned area

The family brought their eight-month-old baby to the restaurant.

According to initial reports compiled by the police, after being admonished by the establishment’s staff, AI confronted the family, resulting in a heated exchange that escalated into a physical altercation.

HY sustained swelling on his left jaw and pain in his lower back, while EN suffered injuries to her left shoulder, as well as both of her knees. The elderly L is struggling with movement from a back pain she sustained

Meanwhile, AI reportedly sustained scratches on his left waist, his right arm, and an injury to his right ear. PV, on the other hand, did not sustain any injuries.

Nyoman said that the police are currently questioning several witnesses and are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident to get to the bottom of the case.
