Alleged methanol poisoning leaves Aussie stuck in Siloam with more than AUD $50k in medical bills

A young Australian woman is drowning in AUD50,000 worth of medical bills after an emergency pancreas-removing surgery last week, a result of alleged methanol poisoning from drinking arak.

Perth woman Jen Neilson, who is reportedly in her twenties, was still in Siloam as of Wednesday and is struggling to pay her hefty bills, reports WA Today

Well what about travel insurance, why wasn’t she equipped with that? According to Neilson’s friend, Lilian Tagliari, her insurance happened to expire on the day she was rushed to the hospital.

“Her travel insurance expired the day she had to be rushed to hospital so they are refusing to pay,” Tagliari told WA Today.

“She will need to spend a lot more money after the surgery and is being told she will need to stay in hospital for a long time.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Neilson by her friends, that has raised just shy of $3,500 as of writing time.
