Alleged drug dealer caught up in North Bali with meth, tried to resist arrest with knife

Ngurah Rai Customs at Bali’s airport says drug trafficking cases are down since the executions earlier this year, but there still seem to be plenty of local arrests to report on.

Narcotics investigators for Buleleng Police arrested an alleged drug dealer, identified as Gede Samba, 36, in Gerokgak, according to Antara Bali

Samba was arrested while conducting a transaction with one of his customers, said Made Agus Dwi Wirawan of Buleleng Narcotics Police in Singaraja on Tuesday.

Wirawan says police confiscated from Samba a single cigarette box containing four packages of meth, two weighing 0.06 grams, while the other two weighed 0.15 grams and 0.10 grams.

Samba was apparently the target of narcotics operation and had been hunted for some time.

The alleged drug dealer did not go down without a fight: Samba reportedly lied and told investigators that the evidence was in his motorbike seat, but they opened the seat and found no drugs. Samba also tried to resist capture with a knife, but police managed to take him in and eventually find the drugs that were on him, according to Antara Bali.

Samba reportedly confessed that he was selling drugs for the past three months, but only to close associates.

He could be subject to charges that carry a minimum of four years and a maximum of 12 years behind bars with a fine of Rp 8 billion, according to Antara Bali.
