A man was reportedly beaten to death by an angry mob on Jl. Bali Deli, Seminyak on Sunday.
West Javanese man Bambang Hermanto, 33, had been spotted climbing down the wall of a villa around 2:30 am, a witness told Tribun Bali.
Hermanto had apparently evaded villa security, but could not outrun the mob.
“After jumping from the fence of Villa Icon, Seminyak, the perpetrator was chased by security guards. Then, local residents became angry and went on a rampage against the offender,” Tribun Bali quoted an anonymous resident as saying.
“Early the next morning, the offender’s body was found naked, dumped in the trash in a vacant lot.”
With his body was a containing goods he had allegedly stolen from the villa, such as money, including currency in Saudi riyal and dinars, along with a couple of STNK’s.
Kuta Police Chief I Wayan Sumara says he wishes residents would not take to vigilantism and would let police do their job, adding that perhaps Hermanto could have been wanted for other crimes they could have investigated.
