An Algerian man is accused of stealing a wallet from a woman when he was out clubbing in Kuta back in August 2016.
Hacane Ha Hanifi, 46, allegedly snatched the wallet from Rosalinda Octaviani, 22, within the first three hours that he had even landed in Bali on August 7, 2016, around 1:20 am.
Hanifi had a hearing in Denpasar District Court on Thursday, where he is facing charges carrying a max sentence of seven years.
“The defendant confesses that three hours after arriving in Bali he directly went to Eikon, Kuta. While at Eikon, he didn’t have any money and suddenly saw the bag and took it. Inside the bag, contained the wallet,” a translator accompanying Hanifi said in court yesterday, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
Octaviani testified yesterday, as well and claimed losses of Rp 4 million from the theft.
Hanifi apparently didn’t act alone. He was working with a man named Abudllah, who is reportedly on police’s wanted list. After stealing the bag, Hanifi allegedly gave the wallet to Abudllah.
Hanifi went to Sky Garden, where he bough a bottle of black label for Rp 2.035 million, allegedly using Octaviani’s BCA card, the court heard.
