Ahead of Nypei, non-Balinese residents pulang kampung

While the Balinese are preparing their ogoh-ogoh for Nyepi and stocking up on weekend survival supplies, non-Balinese natives are taking advantage of the long weekend and peacing out.

Just before Nyepi itself on March 21, 2015, the Ubung bus terminal in Denpasar was apparently packed with a number of travelers looking to take advantage of the holiday for three days.

Based on Merdeka’s reporting, buses going out to locales acres Java such as Surabaya, Banyuwangi, Jember, Kediri, Semarang, and Yogyakarta were all packed with a number of passengers.

“We even deploy our fleet for the Nyepi holiday at this time because of all the passengers,” Iwan, a bus employee told Merdeka.

Apparently the more cautious travelers left last night for fear of all the buses being full today. “If you go tomorrow (on red day, Friday), you certainly cannot get on the bus, tomorrow is definitely full,” Iwan said, referring to today.
