After years of vying for UNESCO World Heritage recognition, nine Balinese dances have finally been added to the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity list.
This news has been confirmed by the head of Bali Province’s Cultural Office, Dewa Beratha in brief message on Thursday morning.
“Yes, it was already set last night on the Representative List of UNESCO ICH of Humanity,” Beratha stated, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
The nine dances were deemed UNESCO-worthy during the current convention in Namibia, Africa and were apparently the sole representative of Indonesia this time around.
The nine dances, as listed by Tribun, include: Barong Ket, Joged Bumbung, Legong Keraton, Drama Tari Wayang Wong, Drama Tari Gambuh, Topeng Sidakarya, Baris Upacara, Sanghyang, and Rejang.
