An American man has reportedly passed away in a villa in East Bali.

The man, a 62-year-old, staying in Bugbug, Karangasem, was found lifeless in his room on Thursday by a friend, according to reports. Bugbug is a village between Candidasa and Amplapura, removed from Bali’s more crowded south.

The body was rushed to Penta Medika Clinic in Denpasar. Doctors believe the American had been dead at least 12 hours prior to being examined.

“His family said that the victim had been suffering from shortness of breath,” Dr. Ni Komang Pastini told Tribun Bali.

Karangasem Police Commissioner Gede Wali said police weren’t yet ready to confirm the man’s cause of death and that an autopsy at Denpasar’s Sanglah Hopsital is underway.

“The victim’s family wants to know the cause of his death. The victim’s body was swollen. His nose was bleeding. We are awaiting the results of an autopsy from Sanglah,” Wali told Tribun.

The police commissioner added that there were no apparent signs of violence on the victim’s body.
