A total of seven Chinese nationals have reportedly been arrested for illegally working at a power plant in Singaraja, North Bali.

There were eight Chinese nationals working at the Celukan Bawang power plant and only one had valid documentation, according to immigration officials.

“From our investigation so far, it’s evident that seven foreigners did not have valid employment documents and simply worked on ordinary visitor’s visas (visa on arrival),” head of the Singaraja Immigration Office, Victor Manurung, told Merdeka on Tuesday.

Indonesia is taking a firm stance on visa violators and the seven will be deported, says Manurung.

“All the documentation is complete for deportation. We will make sure that they have left Indonesia by April 5.”

Immigration in more rural areas of Bali away from the more tourist-filled areas in the south will be conducting more sweeps looking for visa violators, especially in Buleleng, Jembrana, and Karangasem, Maunurung said.
