Right after stats just came out talking about how visits from Chinese tourists were up by more than 50 percent in the first 11 months of 2017, news has broken that 48 Chinese nationals have been arrested on the island for their alleged involvement in an international fraud syndicate.

Local reports released on Thursday state that Bali Police’s Counter Transnational and Organized Crime (CTOC) Task Force have in custody 48 Chinese, 12 of which are women, the rest men.

A “local person” was also arrested in the same operation, Tribun Bali reports.

The 49 people were secured from three different crime scenes in Denpasar and Badung.

“According to Interpol officers, the perpetrators were operating in Bali. The intel came from the National Police and Bali Police, working together to conduct raids,” Bali Police spokesman Hengky Widjaja said on Thursday, as quoted by JPNN.
