A middle-aged man in Buleleng is suspected to have raped his 15-year-old daughter, police said.

Buleleng Police spokesman Gede Sumarjaya earlier today mentioned that the man, DPB, 45, was accused of having raped his daughter last Saturday at around 12:30am at their house. The teenager was sleeping in her bedroom when the father came in and forced himself on her despite the young woman’s protests.

The victim, according to Gede, was shaken but at some point managed to compose herself and told her mother about the rape. They later reported the rape to the local child social services, who then convinced them to file an official report with the Buleleng Women and Children’s Protection Center.

“We haven’t apprehended [the suspect] because we’re still waiting for [sexual assault] forensics exam. If there is a tear found on the hymens, then [the suspect] will be arrested,” Gede said, adding that the suspect had reportedly separated from his wife.

Under Indonesian law, raping a minor is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. If the perpetrator is the victim’s parent or guardian, the punishment may be raised by up to one-third of the prison sentence.
