Earlier today, an earthquake measuring 4.7 in magnitude struck off the coast of Bali’s Nusa Dua, and tremors were reportedly felt in a number of areas, including Kuta, Nusa Dua, Ungasan and Central Lombok.

Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said that the earthquake’s epicenter was 91 kilometers southwest of the island, hitting at a depth of 46 kilometers at 4.23am this morning.

In a statement issued today, the Bali Regional Disaster Management (BPBD) reported that the quake resulted from the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian plate diving under the Eurasian plate. The same plate activity had also been reported when a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Bali on July 16.

Just last week, three separate earthquakes jolted the island on July 24. While it led officials to caution residents to be more alert, they also said that there’s no need to fret and worry.
