Police in Bali announced today that they recently arrested four drug traffickers and seized at least 37,000 trihexyphenidyl pills (locally known as pil koplo) that were being prepared for distribution during the holiday season.

In total, the Denpasar Police seized 37,159 pil koplo from four suspects identified by their initials and ages as H, 43, M, 22, AHS, 27, and BAL, 23.

“These pills were meant to be sold to youngsters during New Year’s Eve celebrations. They are easy to get and relatively inexpensive,” Denpasar Police Chief Bambang Yugo Pamungkas said.

The police chief said that they previously received a tipoff that there were drug smuggling activities in Jimbaran, Badung, and Denpasar, hence patrols in those areas were intensified.

BAL was arrested in Denpasar on Dec. 3 while the other three were arrested in Jimbaran days later.

Trihexyphenidyl is is an antispasmodic drug used to treat stiffness, tremors and spasms. It is abused due to its ability to cause short-term euphoria and elevated moods.

Under Indonesian Law, the four men face 15 years behind bars if proven guilty of drug trafficking.
