In an effort to crack down on gambling, Bali Police have reportedly managed to arrest 33 alleged bookies.
Operation Balak Agung 2015, Bali Police’s anti-gambling operation, started on April 22 and will last for three weeks.
Head of Bali Police, Ronnie Sompie, apparently said that if people are audacious enough to gamble during this three-week designated period, then they are just challenging him.
“Well, really it means people have challenged me by damaging the morality of Bali by practicing gambling,” Sompie said on Monday, as quoted by Merdeka.
He further explained to Merdeka on Monday that after running for five days, 33 alleged bookies were arrested as a part of 26 cases.
“It was incredible,” he said, on the number of arrests made.
The target of this operation is actually to rid Bali of gambling, but that doesn’t seem too realistic at this point given the extent of cases his team has come across.
“This means that gambling is rampant in Bali, and we must firmly and swiftly eradicate it once and for all,” Sompie told Merdeka.
Dice, dominoes, cards, cockfights, you name it and police are going after it, Sompie says.
