The Meteorological, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported today that a 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the northeast coast of South Kuta at 5pm.

The quake was recorded at a depth of 11 kilometers in the ocean and was centered 7 kilometers off the coast of South Kota.

BMKG said there is no potential for a tsunami. There have been no immediate reports of major damages or casualties.

The agency stated that the quake was felt in some areas of Denpasar, Kuta, Jimbaran, Gianyar, and Klungkung.

Naturally, people have been taking to social media to report that they felt slight tremors and swaying for a few seconds in some parts of Bali. Some said (including us at Coconuts Bali) that the quake shook their windows.

We literally tweeted, “Did anyone else feel the earthquake just now?” minutes before we got BMKG’s confirmation, and some responses suggest that the quake merely startled them but it was nothing to panic about.
