Twenty three tourists and six crew members were rescued yesterday after a Sanur-bound boat from Nusa Penida capsized in open waters due to a leak.
Kebo Iwa Express reportedly flipped upside down after a leak was spotted at 5:20pm in Gianyar waters. Current extreme weather conditions in and around the island, which have included strong winds and massive waves, was believed to have caused the boat to collide with an unknown object in the waters, causing the leak.
Clips of passengers and crew being rescued from the boat as it sank have been making the rounds on social media.
At least two Australians were reported to be among the passengers of the Kebo Iwa Express.
Thankfully, there were no casualties in the incident. However, many of their belongings – including personal documents – could not be retrieved.
