A total of 29 foreign companies have apparently offered up their services to provide waste management services in Bali, in cooperation with the provincial government.
“The best one, the most promising and truly committed one, that one will be selected,” Head of Bali Province’s Environment Department, Gede Suarjana said in Denpasar on Monday, as quoted by Kontan.
The majority of the foreign companies are from China, but there are also contenders from other countries including Canada, Korea, Germany, and Austria, according to Suarjana.
The companies are generally offering waste gasification services that involves, as its name suggests, converting waste into gas.
“The governor actually wants this as quick as possible, so we are no longer faced with the problem of garbage,” especially because of its negative affect on the tourism sector, Suarjana said.
