A total of 27 Chinese and Taiwan nationals were flown from Bali to Jakarta yesterday.

The group of 17 Chinese and 10 Taiwanese are suspected of being part of a cyber-crime ring. They were arrested during a joint raid by Indonesian and Chinese Police on Saturday at a luxury residence in South Bali’s Benoa area.

It seems they had turned the luxury residence into a working office, according to Bali Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Commissioner Ruddi Setiawan.

Transferred from Bali Police custody to National Police Headquarters in Jakarta for further investigation, the 27 are accused of deceiving Chinese and Taiwanese residents over the phone, cheating and blackmailing them, causing their victims a total estimated loss of Rp 20 trillion.

Four Indonesians allegedly also involved in the same crime ring were sent along with the Chinese and Taiwanese to Jakarta.

Secured as evidence during the raid was 38 phones, seven routers, 10 laptops, eight cellular phones, CCTVs, and six passports, Antara Bali reports.
