2 ships collide in Gilimanuk, West Bali

Here’s another incident that will not help restore your confidence in Indonesian transportation.

Two LCT vessels collided while trying to dock on Tuesday morning at the Gilimanuk pier in Jembrana, West Bali.

LCT Cipta Perkasa V was about to dock at the pier, while at the same time LCT Arjuna was attempting to slowly move away from the dock after passengers disembarked, according to Okezone

Suddenly, a tidal wave accompanied by strong currents led the ships to swerve and gave the captains a hard time to control their ships. The ships then collided because they were so close, tearing the hull of Cipta Perkasa V, which then caused a leak. Lucky for Arjuna, there was no damage to the second ship.

The ships’ passengers understandably went into a panic after. Port officials reportedly rushed to the scene immediately to evacuate the passengers, though it was mainly cars on board.

Fortunately there were no reported casualties and one of the vessels only suffered minor damage. It’s currently docked for repairs, said the Head of Gilimanuk Port Authority Nyoman Delon.
