Two foreigners in the group of eleven people in the next “batch” of Indonesian executions have reportedly received temporary reprieves.
This could be a ray of hope for Bali Nine Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran who are the most famous of the death row prisoners in the second group of people that Indonesia has vowed to execute in 2015.
Both Serge Areski Atlaoui from France and Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso from the Philippines will have appeals heard, reports Fairfax Media. Atlaoui and Veloso were on the same list as Chan and Sukumaran of 11 people scheduled for imminent execution.
The Frenchman was found guilty of involvement in a Jakarta ecstasy factory but still claims he is innocent, while the Filipina was caught with 2.6 kilograms of heroin as she was entering Java in 2010, according to Australia’s 9News.
In addition to being on Indonesian death row for drug charges, the two death row prisoners also have the experience of getting clemency bids rejected in common with the Bali 9 pair.
However, unlike with France and the Philippines things have been getting way heated on the international diplomacy level between Indonesia and Australia.
