Out of the capital of Bali comes another harrowing case of cruelty towards the island’s dogs.
In a CCTV recording that went viral today, two unidentified men were seen riding a motorbike and then stopping in front of a store in Penatih, Denpasar. They then placed dog food in front of the shop.
Soon after, two dogs came along and ate the food, which appears to be laced with poison as the canines almost immediately suffered seizures before lying cold.
The two men then returned and took the dog’s bodies with them.
The video was shared on various social media accounts based in Bali.
East Denpasar Police Chief Nengah Sudiarta said police are aware of the incident and will look into the case.
The incident represents yet another heartbreaking fate for dogs in Bali. A couple of months ago, beach dogs in Canggu randomly showed up dead – also from suspected poisoning – though motive for the dog killings have not been officially established.
From soaring rabies cases to reports of a burgeoning dog meat trade in Bali, campaigns toward ending cruelty against dogs have been prominent in the past couple of years.
