2 ATMs set up for scam in Jembrana, Bali overnight

Last night, two ATMs were busted into and set up for a scam in Jembrana, West Bali, but the perpetrators’ conniving efforts resulted in a police chase.

One ATM machine was located in Mendoyo Village at a gas station and the other at a restaurant in Negara, according to Tribun Bali

Apparently officers suspected the perpetrators of doing something fishy and started pursuing the men towards Gilimanuk, but were not able to apprehend them. They later found that the car they were chasing had been ditched on the side of the road. The car was reportedly a silver Honda Jazz with plate number B 2743 TP. Either that car was merely expendable to them or they really really did not want to get caught.

From the information gathered by the newspaper, the suspects had jammed toothpicks into the ATMs’ bank card slots and replaced the stickers with the customer service phone number to include a false phone number, most likely to con unsuspecting ATM customers into giving over their PIN numbers and personal information when they could not pull cash from the machines.

Next time you have problems with an ATM, do yourself a favor and just Google the bank’s service center telephone number and never ever give out your PIN.
