2 arrested in Jembrana, West Bali for extorting truck drivers

Two people were reportedly arrested in Jembrana, West Bali on Tuesday night for illegally levying fees from truckers crossing a bridge in Desa Dangin Tukadaya.

Truckers, mainly driving the Java to Denpasar route, had been complaining that they were being extorted when passing over this particular bridge.

Interestingly enough, one of the people arrested was reportedly just a 16-year-old high school student, identified in a Tribun Bali report by initials BPP, while the other was a 36-year-old, KPB.

Jembrana Police Crime Unit head I Gusti Made Sudharma Putra confirmed the arrests to local media.

Putra explained that the two had been posing as guards posted on the bridge, acting mainly at night, and would charge weighted trucks a fee to pass through.
