16-year-old washed out to sea by strong waves while playing football on Kuta Beach

The body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered on Sunday morning at Kuta Beach after he had been dragged out to sea and drowned the day before.

Samuel Caesar Dimatheo Sibarani had been playing football with 11 other friends on Kuta Beach in front of La Plancha, his friend Yohanes Silalahi told Tribun Bali

“At that time we were playing ball on the shore. When the sea water was ankle-deep. But suddenly a big wave came a knocked over a few friends. About five people,” he Silalahi said. When the wave came, Sibranai was tossed out to sea and was frantically waving for help.

Silalahi says he was one of the people who knocked over by the waves. He and his friends tried to get the attention of rescuers on duty, but says they were not taken seriously.

While Sibranai drowned around 4 pm on Saturday, his body was reportedly not recovered until Sunday morning around 11 am.

Another one of Sibranai’s friends who was playing football at the time of the incident told Tribun that the group had been playing in a red flag area (prohibited), but they were on the edge, not right in the middle.
