12 in trouble for not having KTPs in Mengwi, Bali after Lebaran

With the end of Lebaran, hundreds of thousands of Indonesians who returned to their hometowns for the holiday have now just returned to their places of residence.

Authorities are making sure Indonesians traveling through Bali didn’t get too comfortable and decide to indefinitely stay here, which would cause a sudden influx in the island’s population.

Checking KTPs (national identity cards) is one way Bali is trying to curb a population growth spurt.

This week on Thursday, 12 people out of 519 travelers were detained in Mengwi Terminal, Bali, reports Tribun Bali

“Most of the 12 people affected by the inspection did not carry ID cards. Two of them were carrying ID cards that had already expired,” said Ida Gusti Bagus Mudiarsa, head of Mengwi Terminal.

Travelers who were able to provide proof of having family in Bali were fined Rp 50,000, while those unable to were deported from Bali, reports Tribun.
