Authorities caught a dozen people violating health protocols in Seminyak last night, three of whom were subjected to fines, during the latest sweep ensuring COVID-19 protocol compliance in the area.

I Dewa Nyoman Dharmadi, head of the Public Order agency (Satpol PP) in Bali, said in a statement that the 12 consisted of nine foreign nationals and three Indonesian citizens.

“In general we see that there is compliance, but there are still those who violate the rules so we immediately act upon the violation, whether it’s in the form of fines or warning,” Dewa said.

Two foreigners had to pay fines of IDR1 million (US$69.38) each, in accordance with a local bylaw mandating higher fines for foreign violators, while an Indonesian citizen was subject to the IDR100,000 (US$6.94) fine for not wearing a mask while in public.

Dewa said that four people, including three foreigners, couldn’t pay the fines on the spot, and have been issued summons for further questioning instead. The five others were let off with a warning for not wearing their masks properly.
