Heavy rain in Bali often can translate into dangerous landslides, where things are slippery and loose.
A group of 12 construction workers were covered in mud and debris in Buleleng, North Bali yesterday after a landslide in Lingkungan Lumbanan, reports Tribun Bali.
Tribun reports that there was one casualty, East Javanese man Suhaimi alias Fitri, 42, and one man injured, East Javanese man Pak Hor, 55, who was rushed to the emergency room.
A worker from the project, Mela, told Tribun that there had been heavy rainfall and strong winds since midnight. Around 7 am, the group started working on a building, when unexpectedly, the cliff above them gave out and rolled down.
The land plot they were in was reportedly under a seven meter cliff.
Everyone in the group was lucky enough to make it out of the mud and debris okay except Fitri and Hor who were still sleeping, according to Mela. He added that Fitri had been sick with a fever so that is why he had a hard time getting up.
Reports say Fitri was beyond saving from the landslide, as his body was buried by rocks and soil, while Hor is still in the emergency room in Buleleng.
“He was wounded in the head and now lost consciousness, so he keeps on struggling like this,” a medical officer told Tribun.
