While it’s no secret that Seminyak and Canggu are the ‘hipper’ parts of Bali, they’re also, let’s face it, the most tourist-laden. Raise your hand if you’ve spent more afternoons than you care to count withering away under the sun while your bike crawls at a snail’s pace thanks to the bumper-to-bumper traffic! Recently, while complaining about how bad traffic is (while, yes, stuck in said traffic), a little birdy told us to check out Kedungu.

While the area is perhaps best known for its proximity to Tanah Lot, Kedungu itself is actually relatively tourist-free. Spend some time strolling around and you’ll see exactly what we did: stunning beaches, serene soundings, and epic waves for those of us who need our daily dose of the sea.

This doesn’t, however, mean that it’s got some middle-of-nowhere vibes. Neighboring Pererenan is already being viewed as the up-and-coming hotspot dethroning Canggu as the cool ’hood, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that Kedungu’s reputation isn’t far behind. Several top-notch eateries have already set up shop, such as Joshua District, a funky restaurant whose architecture is wholly constructed using shipping containers and recycled materials and whose menu features a range of international cuisines from hearty smoked meat platters to Greek dishes. For those seeking a luxury holiday (or treating yourself to a staycation!), check out Nirjhara which is situated within a lush tropical enclave, or book a luxury tent at Bali Beach Glamping. The famous Pretty Poison also recently moved from Canggu to Kedungu, adding a lively touch to the area’s social scene.

But we’re just getting started! In fact, as a reflection of their belief in the neighborhood’s increasingly positive investment opportunities, The Kedungu Fund, Bali’s first private real estate fund, is in the process of constructing a bakery, a state-of-the-art gym, several restaurants, and a vibrant art gallery in the area.
And if you’re now thinking that Kedungu might just be the place for you, but are confused about where to start (which, trust us, we totally understand), we’d recommend reaching out to Kedungu Real Estate, a specialized property agency with a deep understanding of the local real estate market, particularly within Kedungu (it’s literally in their name, after all).

So if you’re looking for a spot in Bali that combines unspoiled natural beauty with an increasingly spirited social scene, hop on your bike and we’ll meet you up in Kedungu.
