At least 18 traditional musical acts from all over Indonesia have confirmed their participation at the Indonesian Music Expo (IMEX) that will be held starting tomorrow until Sunday at Puri Lukisan Museum in Ubud.
According to the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Director General of Culture Hilmar Farid, the event corresponds to the development of world music from all around the globe.
More importantly, he added, IMEX aims to promote Indonesian culture since the country’s traditional music groups very rarely perform together in a world-class event.
“[…] Indonesia has rich, various traditional arts and all of this time they have been active [so] therefore it deserves to be showcased,” said Hilmar in a statement.
Some of the confirmed acts include Kande, a world music group from Aceh led by singer-songwriter Rafli that often performs in various international music festivals, Suarasama (from Medan), Music Batak Karo (North Sumatra), Riau Rhythm (Riau), Sako Sarikat (Lampung), the Indonesian National Orchesta or INO (from Jakarta), Sambasunda (Bandung), Bona Alit (Bali), Jegog Suar Agung (Bali), Noizekilla (Bali), Dadendate (Sulawesi), PINKAN Indonesia (Sulawesi), Cilokaq (West Nusa Tenggara), Aksilarasi (West Nusa Tenggara), Marinuz Kevin (East Nusa Tenggara), Folksong of Flores (East Nusa Tenggara), Tingkilan Kota Raja (Kalimantan), and Hawaiian Teluk Ambon (Maluku).
The event starts from 10am to 10pm daily from tomorrow until Sunday. The event will also feature exhibitions, talk shows, and work shows.
